After
Liposuction
What can you expect after your
plastic surgeon has performed this new liposuction method on
you?
After Liposuction
Surgery
After your liposuction surgery you will
wear a special cloth expressly designed to model and compress
your body. This post-surgical cloth must be worn at all times
for a week and during the day for a month. You may drain some
liquid due to the small incisions made.
How fast will you recover with SmartLipo?
Recovery is a progressive process. Your
surgeon will advice you to start moving and walking as soon as
possible. You will feel better after a few days and will be
able to get back to your normal activity. Eventual stitches
will be removed during the 7 days following the operation.
Sports and exercise may be taken up from the first month,
although swimming can be practiced from day 15. It is advised
to begin massaging from day 10 after surgery.
You will notice a significant change in
your silhouette after a few days. However real change comes
only after 6 weeks, when most of the swelling is gone. If your
expectations are realistic you will most probably be pleased
with the result of body modelling by laser.
What are the
Risks?
Fortunately, significant
complications from liposuction are infrequent. Every year, many
thousands of people have undergone liposuction, experience no
major problems and are pleased with the results. Anyone
considering surgery, however, should be aware of both the
benefits and risks.
I understand that every surgical
procedure has risks, but how will I learn more so that I can
make an informed decision?
The subject of risks and potential
complications of surgery is best discussed on a personal basis
between you and your surgeon.
Some of the potential complications
that may be discussed with you include:
- Bleeding, blood accumulations
under the skin are possible, but these normally resolve
themselves and rarely require removal.
- numbness of the skin following
liposuction is almost always temporary, it is possible for
some lack of sensation to persist or for skin discoloration
to appear in treated areas.
- Contour irregularities
including depressions or wrinkling of the skin can result
in some patients, but treatments are usually available to
help minimize these problems if they occur.
- Infections, are very rare, but
it is common to make antibiotic propilaxis to prevent
it
- Thrombosis, and embolism are
really rare and are avoided with a quick
deambulation.
